Oem Brakes And Rotors Or Aftermarket?

I took my 325 i in because the the pads were low and was told pads and rotors all around would run $950.I had a shop put 4 vented discs,hawk pads,steel lines and race fluid in a rx7 and had the shop do the labour for a grand.I left....
What are decent alternatives to oem{read somewhere oem rotors are "soft"}
The car has 49k on it so i dont want to redo the rotors again.
Has anyone had any luck with the Tire racks,Monroes,ect.ect.

A local speedshop that deals in high end German street and race cars just gave me this.
Ate rotors,paget pads front and rear sensors $490+ tax,upgrade to Hawk hps for about $100 extra.

Just had to get my rear brakes done & it was over $400. BMW says not to resurface the rotors. At the end of the day, I was leary about going an independent mechanic... Everyone I talk to pretty much comes up w/ the same story & price from various BMW dealers
