Noise in Rear end

I have a 2001 330 ci. I have a noise coming from the rear end. Sounds like a CV joint may be going bad. Any other ideas ? Any idea how the replacement cost would be for a CV joint on a BMW. I am new to BMW cars.
COuld it be a wheel bearing ?

Thanks for any help.

what kinda of sound are you getting from the rear? if its a whining sound, then i would say ball bearings, thump sound check shocks or even the trunk for loose spare tire or such.

it's a roaring sound. I think that is the best way to describe it. Doesn't sound like a rattle or anything like that. More like a wheel bearing, trans axle or CV joint kind of noise.

TRuckee is an unknown quantity at this point
I had an E46 that a wheel bearing went bad on and I heard a "roaring" sound also... sort of like loud wind noise. Don't drive it too much or it will seize and spin the bearing. In my case I had to also replace the drive flange ( $140 ). Jack the suspect wheel up and see if you can "wiggle" it. I can tell you how to replace it yourself, if you think you're up for that. TR

I'm having a similiar sound coming from the rear. I have replaced one wheel bearing about 40,000 miles ago but both sides seem tight. It sounds like a rubbing or moaning that comes on at about 30 mph and is speed constant. any ideas?
