I am the proud new owner of a 2001 330cic which I purchase from a Cadillac dealership who received it as a trade in. It currently has 41000 miles. The Cadillac dealership told me it was serviced through the local BMW dealership, but no maintenance records accompanied the car. I do not know the name of the previous owner. Will the BMW dealership be able to access any maintenance records via the VIN# or will I have to present the name of the previous owner? Also, while the car seems to run fine, I am considering having an early Inspection II performed to safeguard against any problems prior to expiration of the factory warranty, do you guys think this is wise or a waste of money? I have been told by friends that the factory required maintenance is covered as long as the car in under warranty. Is this true and does it apply to second owners? The Carfax report came back clear and both the interior and exterior appear pristine. I paid $38,000 for the car, think I got taken? I am excited and scared about this new car. I would appreciate any assistance anyone might provide.

Unless the previous owner was a total doof, then your car should have had all its maintence taken care of at the dealership, to preserve the warranty. I'd say just start out by going to your local BMW dealership and see what they can tell you about the car.

B) Just provide your VIN # to the dealer and they'll have all the info you'll need and register you as the new owner and also provide warranty info..
As far as your price it seems a little high for the mileage but other than that sweet ride!!
Welcome, and nice car! i think you paid way too much though, with 41k miles that car shouldve been around or under 35k, you couldve even had a 2002 for 38k which wouldve come with the white turn signals.
i agree with M42technic and just take it in and have the dealer check it out, but there's probably nothing wrong with it. the PO probably just traded it in because the warranty was running out

Thanks guys. I figured I payed a little too much for it, but in my neck of the woods a 330cic is a rarity. I think that the fact that there is only one dealership in the state also played a part in the price. Prices here are somewhat higher than I see in other states/cities, therefore the used prices reflect the inflated new prices that the dealer charges because he's the only show in town. Oh well, I love it. Can any of you guys forward any answers regarding the logic of going ahead with the Inspection II now as opposed to later (when the warranty runs out)? I find it odd that the earlier maintenance schedules called for the Inspection II to be performed at 40K when the warranties were 3/36000. Now they recommend Inspection II at 50K, surprisingly the warranty is now 4/50000. Coincidence? I don't think so. What do you guys suggest. I'm ready to learn from those who can teach. Thanks for all your help.

Quite frankly, I think you paid WAY TOO MUCH, and moreover your dealer (stealer) being the only one in the state having a 330CiC is no excuse for paying that much... I bought my ride from Ebay and was not afraid of anything (the whole process is very clear and secure if you make it so). You could have easily saved 10k or more buying from Ebay! There's tons of dealers wanting to survive in today's economy and selling nice rides on there cheap(er). Wish people were less scared of big on-line purchases (which really isn't an on-line purchase because you can fly and test drive the car before you buy it)
Don't wanna depess you too much... but here is an example I found in 2 minutes from writing my post. 2001 330CiC with NAV! and 30k selling NOW for only 34k.....
The dealer has a great reputation on ebay and they sell everything there, so it's 100% trusted. Just a lesson for all future Bimmer shoppers :-)
Unfortunately, I did not make myself clear. The dealer was not a BMW Dealership, it was a Cadillac Dealer. I didn't mean that the car was the only 330cic in the state, I meant that the local BMW dealership is the only one in the state. Therefore, they have no competition. In regard to internet sales/purchases. I was upside down on my other car due to a hit and run...I got hit...I didn't run. Therefore, I needed to go through a dealer who would not only trade, but finance for a longer period of time than a bank would. I guess I opened up a can of worms by asking that question. In the long run, I remain happy and just about get "wood" every time I drive it.

You did make yourself clear. I was just saying that in the Internet age, your location and your neighborhood are no longer valid issues - the web brings all of us and these nice Bimmers so close together, we can shop around and buy exactly what we want CHEAP (like eBay).
The financing part makes sense. I am pro-web purchases, and in your case, I'd probably rent something cheap for a week or two (waiting for a loan) and still end up saving LOTS of money buying elsewhere.
