New Peake Tool: Results

Since testing several aftermarket diagnostic tools (none worked) I finally tried the Peake R5/FCX tool and I must say it WORKED!!!!

After having the 'Check Engine' light on for several months now I have finally managed to reset it.

Nevertheless, I scanned the car to see the cause of this engine light appearing and it came up with the following:

61: EVAP Small Leak

A6: VANOS Output Stage CYL # 5-8"

87: Torque Reduction: Transmission

Has anyone had these same errors? I'm not sure what these mean, can anyone help out?

Any advice would be most appreiated!

^ Not sure what the above means, also what the cause was that triggered these errors?

well the evap leak mybe comming from a connector the output stage 5 an 8 could be a misfire and i havent learned enugh bout transmissions

check all the connections for the evap. on bothe ends of the lines
there isz probable and issue with the vanos system on the pass side check and clean all the connections to start.
btw what model and year is the car?

The model is a 318ci - Year 2000

ok lol that was fast asuming you didn't check that stuff yet?
how did it come up with a mis on 5-8 cyl. reset every thing after checking all the connections for the evap

I've reset the lights for now to see if the errors come back up towards the weekend, if the same error codes come back up and I start testing the car.

I'll let you know what happens, thanks for the advice.

Update:

Today I done an oil change and replaced the oil filter, shortly after I reset the oil change message and reset the 'Check Engine' light again.

Then I checked to see what errors are still there and one has disappeared.

- A6: VANOS Output Stage CYL # 5-8"

So now, all I have left is the following errors to cure:

61: EVAP Small Leak

87: Torque Reduction: Transmission

Any thoughts?

I'm honestly curious how you could have gotten a cylinders 5-8 error on a four cylinder BMW, but hey, maybe that's just me :-)
