We all know that the new coupes will debut in September as the 230hp 238i/xi, and the 300hp 335i. I am guessing that BMW will use the same engines in their 3 Series sedans, but I cannot find any confirmation on this. I am looking into leases, and I would much rather get a 328 over a 325 (320hp over 215hp), so I may as well just wait (financially, I may have to do that anyway).
What's your scoop?

It's actually 230HP for the 328i/xi. So if you were to lease a 328i, you'd be getting only a tad more HP than the 325i. A significant boost would be the 335i, but since you are looking into leasing, modding really shouldn't be done, therefore, not giving the car it's true potential.
I'd go with a 335i for the buy, just so I could mod the beast with a chip and cams

The '320' in the parenthetical was a typographical error. I am aware of the 230 hp figure. I am happy with that for the next couple of years. I haven't driven anything more powerful than my E36 328i, so I don't know any better -- and I like it that way.
Lease payments on a 325i are all I am willing to budget for a car at the moment. I would love a 330i or a 335i, but I simply cannot put that much money into a depreciating asset.
Thanks for the input. So I guess it is almost certain that the sedans will also get the new engines?

Ok, the 328 will be 230bhp, between the 215bhp 325 and the 330 which I believe has 280bhp. The 335 will have a twin turbo 3.0L with direct injection and will produce 300bhp and make peak torque by 1500rpm.

Soooo glad to see the boost comin back on the scene instead of big dispacement! Much more fun, much more tuning potential in my mind. Plus if you've ever had a good boosted car... you know that it's just not the same feeling without boost, same #'s or not!
