I was just searching through the net looking for more information on chipping my car and came across this site.
I am so glad there is site like this for bimmer owners where I can ask questions and get informative answers on.
I just got a 2000 328ci, 5 spd and absolutely love it!! I've only had it for a week and have noticed that other drivers are quite rude to me. People feel the need to want to race me, not sure why because i am pretty much in my own world and do not antagonize other drivers. Also, people enjoy cutting me off. I don't get it.
Does this happen to any other bimmer drivers?
Also, probably a dumb question, but since gas prices are insane now, can i use the middle option 89% octaine since the prem is a bit pricey?

Some ppl are prolly a little jealous of your new ride, who knows..as far as your question don't put 89 octane in your ride as BMW requires at least a 91 rating..

Welcome to the boards!
When you get cut off I usually have 4 options:
A.) Return the favor and accelerate to 40mph above their speed cut them off then hit your washers for 10 seconds...
B.) If the car you're playing with has more punch than yours.... Back Off Otherwise you may disgrace yourself
C.) Flip them the bird (Beware of thugs armed with guns/Soccer moms with PMS)
D.) Back off totally and laugh because if you traded in your car you could probably have 5 of theirs'
Most of the time I go with option D) depending with my mood
As for petrol it depends where you live...
Although Costco's gas prices only allow for debit card/American Express purchases they are on the average 30-36 cents cheaper than Chevron or 76. I usually save $6.00 a fill up at Costco as compared to other gas stations because of the ridiculous price difference. Gas prices here seem to be $2.15 on up at 76 or Chevron.... And $1.79 at Costco.
In the end you're better off filling up your baby with 91 Octane because it runs cleaner and you highly reduce the chances of knocking in your engine. It also comes in handy if you're running performance software in your car.
Congrats on the new ride and welcome aboard!

1) Be the bigger person, back off, and let them run into a tree or another person. It's not worth the possible outcome if you start to street race. If they cut you off, and it's at night, simply put your high beems on and ride behind them as long as possible. If they move, turn off your high beems and use them every time you get the chance to get behind them. Also, if you see a chance to box them in do so. People HATE being boxed in. I've gone out of my way to box people in, then just wave and smile when you see them get pissed off and look over at you.
2) Don't use a lower grade gas. You bought a primo luxury car (argue that all you want, it's luxury to me). Unfortunately you have to pay the price by purchasing expensive, primo, gas/parts/etc. Part of the problem with expensive cars is that the whole package is expensive. It's not like buying a Cavalier. You can put 89 in a Cavalier with no problems, but not in a BMW/Lexus/Infinity/Lambo/Etc.
Cheers.
