Hey everyone I'm looking into purchasing my first car, a used E46, preferably off of Craigslist. I love these cars but I've heard that when something breaks, it's extremely expensive to get it fixed. What should I look out for when purchasing a used E46? Thanks

It's not extremely expensive, but if you're buying a bmw you can't really complain.

You know the old sayings goes " you can pay me now, or pay me later". I would suggest , if you are concerned on reliability, to get a CPO.
