Need thoughts about placement of........

Hey guys, I just purchased a Beltronice STI-Driver radar detector and have an appointment for custom installation and Im curious if any of you have done this and where did you end up mounting the actual detector. Thanks for your comments.

laser detectors in law enforcement are always aimed at a "flat spot" of your car to get the desired effect. as such, the lawman will usually aim at your plate. as it is obviously the flatest surface on the car.

I am not an expert on this, but i suggest you install the laser receiver circa that location

sugest something with the ash try like hiding it in it that it IF it has external sensors to mount to the bumper
If not up high by the mirror and wired up into the upper panel(with the garage door opener and sunroof switch)

If you just have one, then mount it on the plate.

If you have two, like on my Escort SRX system, then mount them equidistant apart at the 1/3 and 2/3 positions along the bumper.

^^^^^^^+1 and precisely what I was going to suggest (with appropriate credit of course!) beforre I scrolled and saw that Prof beat me to it!

I have the "old fashioned" one that mounts on the windshield and have been tremendously disappointed with its abilities in the last 2 years. My next baby will 100% have the Escort mounted in the bumper near the fog lights since I will doubtless be averaging 100mph on local streets...

Also need to try and upgrade this for teh Roadster, as while I ultimately walked every time, the Fuzz had me EXACTLY each of the 2 stops I encountered - FTL! Further, for thoise of you that ever drive in the Empire State of NY, the prior Governor allowed the regulation that permitted State Troopers to negotiate and settle tickets (FTW!) to EXPIRE, leaving motorists and town Courts with only 2 choices, TRIAL (Good luck... ) and pleading guilty (FTMFL). The State legislature finally (TWO YEARS LATER - passed a new law allowing this again as the Courts were overwhelmed and drivers were screwed, only to have the new, post Spitzer blind man (who obviously doesnlt DRIVE) VETO the new law! FTMFL! SO - invest, get a good system, mount it externallly, and ride easy, far from the grip of any John Q. Laws.

No one drives in the city anyway.

The only reason I'm bringing my 5 up there is that RoadsterMadness's driveway will be sparing me having to pay $500 a month for parking.

And there are some terrific driving roads outside the city, in the suburbs and certainly upstate. Upstate on the nifty winding highways was the area I was referring to, certainly not driving in the CITY and getting a SPEEDING ticket!

It is, however, it is a very interesting experience (and pretty scary ) to drive a car in Manhattan.
