My SES light is on and I've scheduled an appt to take the car into the dealer on Monday. I just have a bad feeling already that the dealer is gonna check the car out and it'll be some $3000 repair.
Does anyone know what the worst-case scenario is for this light to be on? And what that translates into dollar-wise?
I just want to prepare myself for Monday.
The other issue is, my car has 68,000 miles and I've never had the brakes or rotors replaced. I had the Inspection II done at 60,000 miles and would assume they checked the brakes and rotors at that time...is that a fair assumption?
SES lamp can be so many different things. figure on spending between 100-150 dollars to get it diagnosed then the actual repair cost can vary quite a bit depending on what is the cause. Be sure to make sure your gas cap is on correctly and tight before going in. A loose cap can cause the check engine lamp.
To answer your second question, yes part of the inspection service is to check the brakes. They should have given you a checksheet of all that was done and specs for what condition the brakes were at the time. If not then as them to check the history to see what the brake specs were when the servce was done. if they cannot provide them then politely ask them if they will do a quick brake check while they have the vehicle in the shop free of charge since it should have been done at the insp 2.
good luck,

Thanks for the thorough reply. Do you think it's even worthwhile then to rush to the dealer to get the problem diagnosed/fixed, or should I just spin by an autozone and get the code read out? I should mention the car is running fine.
