Does anyone know if the 01 330xi's use an obdii port? If so what do you use to read it? I know you need a code reader I just need one that will work with my car. My check engine light is on and I want to know why without having to pay the dealer. ghead
Pep Boys sells the Accutron code reader (the top of the line reader with 4 lines of info') for $189. Autozone sells the same reader for $290! I bought one and it works fine, but the book it comes with is pretty useless at understanding some of the codes. But a friend used it on his Chevy and it told him exactly which of the 4 oxygen sensors was bad, so some of the codes have enough info' to interpret clearly.
On my 2001 325i trouble light code, I asked the dealer what the trouble code number really meant, got some free advice, and fixed my code problem, which was that the solenoid that checks for a gas tank vacuum was leaking, and which I repaired by taking the solenoid apart, regreasing the plastic seal, and reassembling. My trouble code was part of what people generically call the "loose gas cap" family of problems, but the gas cap had nothing to do with the actual problem.

Does it give you fault codes for airbag lights or can you do your oil reset with it?
