need advice whine from rear of bmw e46 318

hello thinking of a upgrade from my e36
318 too a 318 e46
found a clean tidy model with full history 140k £1500 ono
took it for a test drive every thing seems ok
other than a whine from rear sounds like a wheel bearing but after reading a few posts on here it seems like this model suffers from diff problems
if it is the diff will it totally fail
or should i just put up with it

Describe the whine with more detail.

There is a common issue of a whine when slightly letting off the throttle. but this is lessened by an insulation strip placed on the bearing on the drive shaft...I think. My car has this whine but I haven't fixed it yet. I just make sure to step on the gas harder.

thanks m8 its like a dull huming noise from rear does sound like a wheel bearing
