Nav system for 330i - worth getting??

I love gadgets ... and money. Is the $1800 BMW nav system gadget worthwhile and why. Tks.

good question , do you really get lost quite often? its an expensive map if you ask me.

My car doesn't have it, but sometimes I wish it did. I live in NJ and it would probably be helpful (especially in those little trips to NY every once in a while). Let's face it though, it might be 5% convenience but about 95% toy. If I had the dough and planned on keeping the car for longer than 5 years I'd go for it. The best thing about OEM is that it fits nice and flush, you can't replace that with anything else.

I LOVE the NAV system in my 330. True -- a lot of gadget, but a whole lot of fun and pretty useful, too. It's not always the best at pegging exact addresses, but it isn't bad. Plus, it includes a directory with restaurants, etc. in it.

I also have the bluetooth kit installed which is great with the NAV system since it shows my phone directory on the screen for easy access.

Save yourself 900.00 and the remounting of your climate controls (on Nav equipped cars the climate controls are in place of the top compartment above the ciggy lighter) and buy yourself quite possibly the world's best REAL navigation system, the Magellan Roadmate 700. This is based on tried and true technology, the same found in Hertz Neverlost equipped cars, it uses a totally upgradeable hard drive system, and is ultra precise with SUPERB voice prompting and audio/visual notification. MSRP is roughly 1400.00, but these go on ebay all the time for as little as 950. I used the Hertz system when on business in California and would highly recommend it.



Also alot harder for thugo types to steal when you can pull it out of your car. Other than the TV option, I dont see a real reason to go with the BMW based unit.
