N E 1 Know Why 99-00' 2.5l Is Named 323i

Just wondering if anybody had a clue why this was.

i guess it has more spereation from the 328 to make it sound not as good.

it's all in the marketing. there are a lot fo little things like that with BMW. like the 540 it is actually a 4.4L and the X5 with the same exact engine isn't a X5 4.0 but it is a X5 4.4

but 99% of all that kind of stuff is for a marketing reason.

just like the 318 is really a 319
and a old 528e was really a 527
or the 325e was really a 327
or the 1997 540i is really a 544

bmw's history is full of things like that.

the 325is on e36's is a 2 door but doesnt necessarily have sports package, whereas a e30 325is is also a 2 door but does have the sports package.

ci(coupe),
ic(convertible),
cic(convertible coupe),
ti (hatch),
it (touring wagon),
is(sports package, or 2 door),
ix(awd, old),
xi(awd, new),
iL(lwd, old),
Li(lwd, new)....
it goes on forever.
year to year they rarely are able to descide on keeping things like that the same

Hey its not only with cars....with motorcycles its the same:

The 600 bikes are actually 595 or 598 or 599. The 1000cc bikes its the same.....well frankly speaking how many people would buy a Suzuki GSXR 598

as opposed to a sweeter sounding Suzuki GSXR 600.....or a thou.....imagine saying just got my 598.99 in yesterday......its cool...lol

As said earlier its all marketing....I am sure if Suzuki increased the capacity of the GSXR1000 tomorrow by say a 50 cc they would prefer calling it GSXR1000 instead of 1050........marketing.
