my new 330xi

hi guys im new to the site and i just bought a 5 speed 2003 330XI, silver on black and it has sound and weather package. I have a quick question, when i picked it up and drove it home i realized the brakes are in horrible condition., i mean when you hit the brakes the steering wheel shakes and you could hear and feel vibrations. also the calipers and rotors are both pretty rusted. i was wondering if i just need brake pads or rotors and/or calipers to and how much they cost? thanx

you should replace the pads AND rotors since they wear together (like mirror images of eachother) depending on your mileage you may still have warranty on the vehicle and can get the brakes done at the dealer under warranty, if not price around (I always recommend OEM parts)

Naaa, my calipers have surface rust on the outside too, but they operate just fine. Replace your calipers if you notice your brakes start to stick on one or more wheels or if they start to leak. I agree with 325is, replace both the rotors and pads on all 4 wheels. OEM parts, if purchased by you from an online wholesaler, should run you no more than $300 (don't forget the pad sensor wires and silencer goup!!!). Either do the work yourself or take it to a reputable mechanic in the area... take it to the dealer if it's covered by the warranty.

Live_the_Curves is an unknown quantity at this point
The dealer will steal you money, take it to private mechanic that knows and works on bmw.
