I am a newbie here... I just got my first BMW yesterday, a certified one.

2001 325i Auto with 26000 mi on her. I paid $23500 plus tax. Is it a good deal?

I have some questions....
Is it a good idea to add OEM Navi system?
Does BMW have an MP3 player option?
I saw a motion sensor but my car doesn't have this option. Is there a way to test?

Thanks

1) Should have asked before you wrote the check. It doesn't matter now.
2) It's a good idea if you can afford it and you only need it in this car. Otherwise buy a portable unit that you can take wherever and whenever you want to.
3) No
4) Would you post a pic of the sensor?
5) If your car doesn't have this option, don't worry about it.

btw, to the forums. Glad to have you aboard.

If you take off that vent on the roof of your car, and there is nothing inside, then you do not have a motion sensor. If there is a black bow-tie looking device that is plugged in, then you have a motion sensor and should have an alarm. If the latter is the case, then look next to your battery in the trunk (have to be able to see the battery), to the right should be a tilt sensor mount A) on the floor or B) on the side of the car (i forget which).

This would mean you definently have an alarm.

Thank so much everyone  I don't think I have an alarm as shown in the option list. I read the manual, it said this is the box for motion sensor as KillFox said. I will look at the battery tomorrow morning.

One more question, what is the red one below the rear mirror? Alarm system? :P

This is a little orange lite that kinda glows at night so you can see your controls w/o turning on the overhead light. Kinda like a jet airplane.

Silver, I was under the impression that Ritius was talking about the clown nose.
If he is talking about the clown nose than it is part of the alarm system and it should flash when the Alarm is activated. But that is a dealer thing to have it turned on. And if you do you have to specifically ask them to turn on the clown nose otherwise they won't do it. Ritius, you may have all the equipment already installed, but you have to have the dealership turn it all on. That is all part of you key programming stuff. The motion sensor is located in the vent area that is circled in blue. I too was under the impression that it was an A/C vent but was mistaken.
Oh and welcome to the forum.

Thank you so much everybody. I did check my bmw again. I confirm that I don't have the alarm system. I check in the hood, no sensor. Nothing is flashing at the red one under the rear mirror.

Do you know how much it costs to add the alarm system?

Thanks...again.

The factory e46 plug and play alarm system runs roughly for $250 give or take $50. This alarm is a fairly quick install, and takes almost no mechanical apptitude. All you have to do is plug in the bow tie motion sensor, bolt down a tilt sensor in a factory location, and install the siren under your front intake cowling. Anyhow, the hardest part would be installing the siren.

To have a reputable shop do the install, would probably run you no more than $100, as they dont have to splice in a bunch of wires and do all kinds of funky stuff, they just 'plug and play'.

The alarm can be purchased from your local dealer, or Circle BMW, or Pacific BMW, or even ebay (I would go through the dealers first). Cricle bmw and Pacific BMW are dealers who sell parts online, and they most definently can get you one. They also offer instructions there too, i believe. If not, my 330i has an awesome run through with pictures! http://www.my330i.com/mod8.php#C

Good luck!
