My 2003 330i Makes a slight wine when I push on the gas.

What does this mean? It can be very annoying. Also out of nowhere the service engine soon light came on and won't go off, I'm not due for service for another 5,000 miles. help please!

Not yet, I'm just trying to troubleshoot it as much as possible before having to take it in. That "Service engine soon" light really worries me-

5k miles is an arbitrary number. cars dont break down at exact intervals. goto a shop and have them pull the engine codes. start from there. theres too many questions to ask at this point to even bother trying to help you solve it without pulling the codes first.

I pulled the codes from a personal reader, the service engine light is from apparently bad gas. I guess don't fill up at f'n D. Shamrock. Now I'm just wondering what the wine is? Hmmmm...

open your airbox and reseat the cover. i read somewhere it might be seeping air in on the side making the odd noise.
try that.

if not that then it may be your idle pulley/tensioner, they tend to whine after 100k. i know mine is making noise, im pissed cause i didnt change it when i swapped the pulleys.
