I saw a Phatnoise 60 gig MP3 player that is supposed to take the place of the CD changer that my 330xi is wired for, and it's supposedly controllable by the car just like the Alpine CD changer. Has anyone tried this? Would awesome to have all my music right there in my car=)

I was thinking about one of those but they are sooo expensive.. It's nice to have them built into your dash but I like my iPod/iTrip solution.. works great and is cool since you can take it out of the car.. you may not like playing music through the radio but it's definetly something to think about...
Dension's solution is waaay better if you don't want to go the RF route.. They use regular IDE Harddrives so you can just use an extra one you have lying around or buy one for cheap.. bout 400 bucks for the unit and 50 cents/gig for a HD.. way better deal I think than blowing over a thousand bucks for the Phatnoise.. And that doesn't even include installation cost if you don't want to do it yourself.. n
the whole itrip ipod deal doesn't really work that well if you live in a decently sized city, it gets alot of interference. it might be clear in one area of the city and then pick up part of a station in another, i personally think a harddrive wired to the headunit would work better

i was also thinking about the ipod method too. how is the sound of the songs coming from a cd player vs ipod radio transmition? is the sound quality good or are the songs from the cd players better and clearer?
Just traded in my 350Z for an Imola Red 330i Performance Edition sedan two days ago. It's got no tape deck, and I hate FM modulators, but I need my Ipod connected. The guy at BMW is going to conect my Ipod to the Auxilary on the deck. I will be plugged straight in to it for best sound and can acces the setting with the Mode button. Should be perfect.
we definitely need to keep this topic fresh. i'm gettin myself the creative nomad 40gb mp3 player for my birthday and would really like to connect it to my car. i live in downtown salt lake city so i guess an fm modulator wouldn't be a good idea. definitely keep us posted cakman. btw, does anyone have the creative nomad zen xtra jukebox? i'm findin it for around $250.
Well, I have not done it yet, scheduled for Wed, but it will be no different than running the Ipod into a home stereo which is perfect. The Aux adapter is an option available on the HK deck on 2003- but you have to buy it and have it installed as an accessory. Basically they will install a little female jack, barely visible at all, somewhere on my center console, then I just male/male wire (from radio Shack) the Ipod into it. It will work better than any other option possible. I used to run the tape in my Z, and that always had that slight whispery sound in the background. Two of the guys at the BMW dealership, including the service manager, had done it and were raving about it. $150 to buy and have installed. Fellow Ipod-ers understand the necessity for these expenditures.
BTW, IMHO, I suggest not getting the Nomad and getting whatever Ipod you can get for the same money, even if it has a smaller capacity. You will not be dissapointed. Has changed my music listening life. Listening now as I type.
the nomad/ipod debate is something i've been struggling with for a long time. my buddy has the nomad and is happy with it but i've never heard anything bad about the ipod. ever. maybe the battery-is it true that you cant replace it? also is it fully compatible with non mac systems? sorry to hound you about this cak but i really hate it when i regret a purchase.

I used my ipod on Windows for a year before switching to a Mac (which was also a great decision). I have never had a problem and you can replace the battery for $99 through Apple or <$50 if you do it yourself. The Battery will last you at least a couple of years before it starts to fade. Even if you have to save a bit more $$$ for an iPod, you should, you will not be dissapointed. Managing an ipod with Itunes is so easy and enjoyable.
The only thing I can recommend as highly as an Ipod (or a 3 series BMW) is a TiVo.
