hey fellas, it may seem like a stupid question..but i keep hearing the word 'moonroof' wen ppl talk about wat options they ahve on their cars.
is this the same as a sunroof?
thanks
The E46 has a moonroof. I think if your moonroof/sunroof is painted and only goes up, not back, then it is a sunroof. Or rather if it just goes up.. SOmething along those lines.
All bimmers now have moonroofs. The sunroofs were the old ones that were metal not glass. The moonroof just means that it has the sliding piece inside that covers the glass so the sun doesn't shine in during the day, but can be slid back at night so you can see the moon without having the cold air rush in.
sunroof means it is metal and not glass so it is either open or close moonroof means it is glass, open, close or sun exposure. moonroofs have sliding covers so you can let light in without openeing the roof.
E38 had sunroof/moonroof options. We picked the sunroof when we purchased our E38. Sunroofs are in a sense more safer cuz its fully enclosed (metal) whereas moonroofs includes glass in the equation.
I'm wondering, and I believe the initial post was asking, is there any instance on BMWs where the moonroof acts like a sunroof? meaning does the glass cover slide back to give full exposure like the metal cover on a sunroof?
I've seen this on a Saab I test drove at the time I bought my BMW w/ sunroof. In away I prefered that because you got all options in one package.
Another question. Could you some how upgrade a sunroof to a moonroof? i.e replace the sliding metal cover with a sliding glass cover?
