I love my Bimmer but I am getting a good deal on a one year newer and 20,000 less km Mercedes c240 (2002) , I haven’t driven a C class before but do u think I should go for it? any opinions, don’t try to be 2 bias guys... I know I am sometimes being a bmw owner
I've never driven a C-class Benz, but from the reviews I've read, you're better off with your Bimmer. The C-class were created as the "budget luxury" class. Remember the days when only the wealthiest of wealthy owned Mercedes? To broaden their market, they created cars with less build quality and lower prices.

The result: the C-class.

With all due respect to the 3-series owners (I am one of them) the 3-series was also made to target the upper to lower middle class income families and yeah even the BMWs were once owned by the wealthiest of people......until the 3 series....so I would not necessarily make that inference that if they made a cheaper car that its lesser quality.....the size reduces, the excess luxury items are cut down on, the perks are cut down and voila the cheaper car. Reduce the 7 series by a 1/3, remove the GPS, the 16 extra Computer options, leather and the tilting lights etc etc etc and you have a car 10-15 grand cheaper.....and none of those items affect the perfomance of the car in any way. So yeah the C-class is cheaper but may not be bad in quality. Having said that.....I WOULD NEVER EVER touch the C-class with a barge pole because of the way it looks. It looks like a pimped out Mitshbishi Lancer.....lol and that is being very reserved in my hatred for Mercs. I HAVE driven a C-class....I hate all Mercs now.....I would buy an Acura TL or the Infinity G35 (read 14 Bose speakers 5.1 surround)......before I would even think about C-class.....hope this helps Sardar.....now don't be a sardar. Just kidding.
I don't care for the c class. I think you would need to get up to the e to be comparible at all, but don't care for them. Their MPG is terrible and for what? They are not as nice as the BMW's unless you are going all out on a S class and are 80 years old. Mercedes is not going in a good direction IMHO. I would clear of it to be honest.
In this past months issue of one of the BMW mags I have (I can't find it right now - of course), I don't recall the name of the particular mag, there is an article on the "quality" of German made cars. BMW faired pretty good, but who took a beating? VW and Mercedes!! VW is way down at the bottom of customer satisfaction and Mercedes has done to well. The article stated the quality is beginning to come back.
And what took a qualitative beating from customers because of the competition between M and BMW? You guessed it, the recent software wars between the two - the Idrive in the Bimmer - surprise, surprise.
The C-class esp the earlier ones were dodgy at best. I would stay away. The C240 is also quite underpowered and is softly sprung. I was not impressed when I drove it.
