M3 bumper fitted,,,, wrong help???

i have just had a m3 bumper fitted to my 318 ci e46, and at the sides of the bumper, where the bumper meets the fender (arches), thesr is a gap, about 1CM,,,,

i poped the bonnect and saw the black rubber going around the inside on the bumper, these rubber goes all the way around the side of the bumper, the rubber has plastic in side it and if this is taken off and cutt at each end by about 4 inch ( so that the rubber does not hit the wing from in side. will this allow the bumper to have a smaller gap
