Loud ticking noise during engine idle?

So lately my 330i's had this consistent loud ticking noise while the engine is idling, whenever i brake it'll go away and as i take off again it begins, im not sure if should maybe stop driving it, i don't wanna end up messing anything up badly, any suggestions?

I'd start with the timing chain tensioner.

yep,or an oil issue,mine ticks if a substandard oil is used.Fully synthetic is what it wants.

Does the frequency of the ticking vary with the revs or the temperature of the engine?

Is it there in when you put the car into drive (stationary) or depress the clutch?

Can you isolate the noise to a specific area of the engine bay?

How long has this been happening for? Was there any work done immediately prior to the noise starting?
