looks vs. performance????????

i want to buy a set of hamann 19" rims.....but i don't know if i would affect the performance of the car if i drop it with EIBACH PRO-KIT springs . I know that afterwards it'll look hot, but is it worth it if the car drives like s##t???


Also which tire manufacturer is recommended for E46's.......???

i was stuck with this indecision before on whether to get 18's or 19's.

first off, i would NOT sacrafice the ride of the car. it wouldn't be worth anything, if your car rides like s---t. keep in mind that 19's will ride rougher than the 18's. the 18's is much better performance wise and the 19's is just for looks. i have decided to go with 18's when i get ready to purchase some new rims for mine.

tires? i like the michilen pilot sport, but there are other good tires such as bridgestone potenza, dunlop sp sport, pirelli pzero, and yokohama avs sport.

fuck looks... all performance. if you want looks go paint a kleenex box pretty and go put it in your car.

this isnt the lounge, watch your language. And how are you to say that performance is everything. There are kits out there that offer a minimal drop, with increaed performance....

performance = SSR GT1s or Integrals or Competitions, BBS lightweights...

looks = Hamann, ACS, etc.

tires: go for the widest tires you can drop on your rims, especially your drive wheels, the more rubber, the more grip, the safer and the better the handling. I like Yoko AVS Sports myself, but Michelin Pilot Sports and BF Goodrich G-Force T/A KDs are good too.

there are these one Good Year's, that tirerack ranked as the #1 tire in the "Max Performance" category, second are the SO-3 Pole Positions

great tires, not in that order tho..

i think 18" is the best overall for an E46...its the perfect balance in performance and looks. i personally think the E46 M3 is perfect in 19s. but we are talking about a normal E46 so I say 18"

that is information ive gathered over the years...and most people agree. its the perfect balance in performance, looks, and ride quality/cabin noise. :P

18 or 19 is irrelivant in the question. some sized rims work better with different cars. in this case i think 18's would work better. but on an M3 the 19's would work better. different strokes for different cars (isnt that the way it goes?)


my reasoning behind why 18's over 19's , is because the rim is lighter and you can fit more tire on them creating more contact patch. however on an M3 with wider wheel wells , you can maximize better with 19's because the space is greater.

exactly! my 19" rim has the same amout of sidwall, as a normal e46's 18"s do....
