Could really do with some advice, I gave a 325ci Convertible, 2001. I changed the suspension back to original as it had been lowered, just prior to that I noticed a knocking or banging from the front end. Didn't really pay much attention at the time. Since I have put the suspension on the sound (banging/Knocking + a rattling sound) is considerably more noticeable. I have checked the wish bones + bushes and they seem fine,I was under the car last night, belly plate off and couldn't feel any play anywhere??
My first thought was wish bone bushes but now I'm not sure, on smooth roads I can't fault the car but bumps/speed humps/uneven roads it sounds really bad, I thought it was just the passenger side but I suspect both sides, from within the car it sounds like its central to the engine?? Steering is good and no drift, responsive and no play.
Have you inspected the coil springs? These can break ! (supsension tops too)..
Have a look at the break disc cover-plates as these sometimes break away from a 10mm bolt...
Lift the hood/bonnet and bounce the front end to find any unusual noises!
Maybe jack the front at the center (slowly) and listen to where the noise comes from.
Let me know how you get on !!

Dabsy, thanks, jacked the car last night, nothing at all, so today I put the car over our pit, went underneath while someone pushed the car down, drop arm from the suspension strut to the anti roll bar was the culprit, new one coming tomorrow, the suspension shock is also leaking, again new one ordered for tomorrow, fingers crossed by 2pm all will be well will let you know and thanks for the tips
YAY nice and easy job, N/S drop arm / stabiliser bar knackered also new struct/shock, couple of hours all done and drives without a knock/rattle. cheers for the tip Daz
