sorry for starting alot of thread guys, but i have a question to ask about the ignition coil. It said on the code that i had a cylinder misfire and i changed all my spark plugs..sooo im guessing its the ignition coil...
so im just wondering how long i can run with this problem? because its pretty costly to replace around 4 of them.
oh and also i havent been feeling any shaking anymore ever since i fixed my intake boot and the cars running fine, but theres still this error code
also wheres the cheapest place to get ignition coils!?!?!
if u have any misfire...it means that unburnt fuel could be entering the exhaust...if this is happening then it means that it could be damaging your catalytic converter...which IS very expensive
take it to an independant specialist..hook it up to the diagnostic equiptment and if a minute or two they should say which cylinder is misfiring..then change that coil
ps your said 4 coils?? does this mean you have a 318???? check and see if you have coils or just leads

i have a 323i, and i sorry i said it wrong i meant i have 4/6 bad coils according to the the reader at autozone. He didnt tell me specifically which ones, and told me to change all of htem to be sure. My friend tells me i should take it to a shop and ask for their opinion, but i see nothing wrong when driving it around.
also i was wondering how much a shop would charge to replace them and also if there is a DIY for changing ur own ignition coils?

A SIB is out right now for Bremi Coils. You might have them, so take them out and see if they are the Bremi ones. If they are, go to the dealer and get your new coils.

i got the recall letter from BMW for the ignition coils. i plan on calling the dealer sometime later this week to set up an appointment to get them changed.
In the event you don't have Bremi coils and you still need to replace them, check Bavarian Autosport for their replacement coils ($400 for set of 6, cheaper than OEM) or you can check Turner Motorsport for a set of used coils in excellent shape (set of 6 for $150).
I also had to change the ignition coils, but luckily the car is still under warranty. The guy said that this is a problem in bimmers. Kind of a useless post but i just thought that i would say this.
I had 2 cars that came in last night for the coil recall. The Z4 did not have any faults, but the E46 had a misfire in cylinder two. Replaced the coils, felt like the car was brand new. Get them replaced and see what happens.
What does your mechanic mean by everything is going to shut off?
