hydraulic cam chain tensioner

1st of all do i have one????? (e46 318ci m43)


2nd....is this what is causing my rattle at start up when the oil is warm???

i think peter mentioned it in a prevoius post???

any more info on how this would represent itself if it was failing??
and what are the implications??

i do not knwo how to test this part easily. what i used to do, is to listen with a stethoscope, to make sure if the noise is from the chain and not something else. then, if the motor was new, the symptoms were right, and i was sure that the chain is not stretched, i'd just replace the tensioner.

To use stethoscope on engines to recognize any noises, someone has to be an advanced auto tech or a physician ,that is why you know how to do it Peter ! LOL...
