How to install radiator drain plug?

Not sure if anyone's been there, but I had to replace a whole radiator on my 328 and ran into a problem with a complete reinstall of the radiator plug. It costist of two pieces - one is long and black that goes way in the radiator and then the blue screw that goes inside of the 1st one. My question is: how on earth do you mount that first black long piece in - there is no thread on it like on screws so how do you make sure you secure it in place??? I just pushed it in, not seeing any other way (installed that blue screw as well) and sure enough it is slowly drips coolant. Anyone can help?
