are you obd1 or obd2

If you are obd1 you can do the stomp test. Do a search.

If you are obd2 you can go to autozone/checkers and borrow their scan tool.

Edit: you are obd2 go to autozone/checkers/krogers

since you asked about a stalling problem of your 330ci in another thread it's probably an obd2 car (all '96 and newer cars are obd2). in the driver side footwell towards the left side (where the hood release latch is) there's a little latched door. pop that open and there's an obd2 port there (D-shaped plug/connector). you need to plug in an obd2 code reader. the code will help diagnose the problem. your local autozone should scan it for free.

BMW's as late as '99 some still have the 20 pin under the hood and it can be difficult to get the codes from em...don't know if it's the same for autozone but it plays games with us at the dealer lol
