Does anyone have any idea why I hear a high-pitched whine whilst I'm steady at any speed over 40mph. I only hear it if I maintain a steady speed with the accelarator pedal lightly touched - put my foot down more, or take it off, and the whine disappears. I drive a 2003 320iA (Canadian) with 14,000 miles on the clock. Thanks
I own a 99 323i and have this exact same problem. The first time I reported it to the dealer (at 55K) they found that a vent valve diaphram had ruptured and replaced the vent valve intake hose, the exaust hose, and the vacuum supply hose. This didn't correct the problem and when I brought it in again they claim that they didn't hear the sound. It was more intermittent then and much more consistent now (at 65K). At my next service I plan to bring it up again.
I first heard this high pitched noise on my 2003 330 when I removed the original air intake, boxes, and filter and replaced it with a high flow device.
I get this problem as well - a high pitched whining when I go over the speed limit - it tends to come from the passanger seat but only happens when my wife is sat in the car!! :wink
