I posted about this a while back but id really like to be a little more certain about it before I make the long drive to south texas from kansas.

Basically, Im wondering if anyone has audio or video w/audio clips theyve taken in their 330i's with unmodified intake/exhaust. My concern is that right at 24-2500 RPM (perhaps where VANOS kicks in as previously mentioned?) this car just has a REALLY boomy (throaty?) roar from the engine or exhaust. At slower speeds you hear it each time it hits 2500RPM as it shifts through the range, and at a constant 65-70mph its just an almost constant boominess. Ive had no errors on my dash, my coolant temp is fine and one time I told the dealer about it they said it was fine (but remember this was when they also said the differential was fine and they ended up replacing that).

If thats the way this thing is... hey all the more power to it, but if not it has to indicate some kind of problem.

help is appreciated, thanks!

Do you have an aftermarket filter, or intake system?

I'd have to hear it to give an opinion.

Hey TECH,
No, no aftermarket stuff that I know of (this thing cant get much better than it is!). Oddly enough I got two brand new front tires last night and either these tires are LOUDER than the previous ones, or something is weird, because while the noise is still there, it is not pronounced now as it was before (though it is certainly engine sound, not driveline noise). The best I can describe it is this way... It doesnt sound like a knocking or anything normally associated with any sort of engine problem, but if you had to listen to it for hours on end youd get a headache... pushing it slightly over this 2500RPM point, or cruising slightly under this point results in a quiet ride.

Ill have to try and record the sound somehow when I get a chance.
