Just food for thought, pull the light bulb out and do a real good inspection of the bulb to include thbase of the bulb. My tail light indicator went off about two weeks ago and I checked the bulb and it looked fine, but the indicator was still on. I had too look at it real close a second time and when I did I noticed that the post that hold the filament looked like they where coroded. I went ahead and changed the bulb and the indicator went off. I am not sure if this is you cars problem or if you have already changed the bulb, but you might look into it.

I had the same problem. At first it was just my front blinkers, The light would go on and off so I pulled the bulbs out and realized that somehow it was shorting and it melted the tip of the bulb. I just filed it down and put it back and no problems. My brake lights did the same thing.
Well, Bulbs will be bulbs. I have had to change mine just like on all of my other vehicles. The cars may be better, but the bulbs are still made like they are for all other vehicles. Oh and guys welcome to the Forum.

The assembly on the E46 is extremely easy to remove, there is one button/clip that you pull inwards and the assembly pops out. The assembly holds all like... 5 bulbs that are in your tail light, just find the brake one and twist it one way and it will pop out. Then just insert the new bulb, push down and twist, and its good to go.
Then you simply place the assembly back against the housing, line it up, and push it in and the button/clip will click and you are good to go.
I've had some problems with the computer telling me "break light circuit" is having problems, and I changed the bulbs and it worked fine. BMWs are really sensitive when it comes to bulbs....
