Help: Squeaking coming from 325i steering wheel!

Hi All,

For about a week now when I drive my 325i the steering wheel is making squeaking noises especially when I do a full turn one way or the other. It seems to be getting progessively worse and I notice it more the longer I drive.

I took it to my mechanic and he says short of opening it all up he cant do anything about it and that I should put some oil into it.

Any ideas or suggestions on this? My damn garage in my condo is 5 stories into the ground and I have to basically spiral down each day so I think thats what has caused the wear and tear. I hope its not too serious??

Thanks!!

2001. How hard would it be to take it off? From the impression I got from my mechanic is that it would be too much trouble.
