Please can somebody help me, this is the first time i'm using a BMW forum, as I am just about to buy my first BMW 320i SE 2001 Xreg. The problem with it is that when i took it for a test drive it made a horrible noise as soon as i went over 20mph. This noise was like an aircraft. I only drove the car to 40mph as this noise was rather bad. I'm beginning to think that it could be a wheel bearing or maybe even a differetial. I thought it was the gearbox at first but when i put the clutch down and slipped the gear selector into neutral, the vehicle was still making the noise. Before i buy this car, although i've handed over a deposit i just wanted to embark the expertise of the people on this forum as to how costy the job may be. I don't think i will be taking it into BMW to get looked at but i may try some local places. I'm situated in Kent if anybody knows of a good BMW Independent. I'm just abit worried about the cost not being too expensive. Am i right assuming its got nothing to do with the engine. Could it be the Differnetial and if so does anyone knw what is likely to be cost. Also what is my worst case scenario with this car for repairs. Please help. The car has 101000 miles and has full bmw history up till 80000 miles where it has since been serviced by an independent recently.
Am i panicking abt nothing!
