Help!!!new thermostat but check engine light didnt go off!!!

hi guys i have 2001 bmw 325ci , the p1620 came on , i read online thats for the thermostat , so bought a new one , i already installed it , but the code never went away , even after i cleared the code, the car runs perfect doesnt overheat or anything. any one know what might be wrong??

i have to get emission passed anyone know if it will pass VA emission if that p1620 code is on???

Is there an electronic sensor mounted on or near the thermostat? Maybe its that playing up. Did the old Thermostat seem to be faulty before you changed it?

The same thing happened with me and the service engine soon light.

I replace the t stat, water pump, among a few other things...and the SES light stayed on. I'm thinking now that it's the coolant temp sensor on the side of the engine.

I'm not looking forward to replacing that one.
