As a long time BMW owner I need help on my decision as my current Lease comes up shortly. I am 46 years old and have reached the mid-life crisis portion of my life. I want something sporty. I currently have a 2001 E39 540I. My kid is in University and our second car is a four door Infinity. My options are to pick up a 2004 330I Coupe with Premium package, M-package, SMG in Silver Grey or Black.
Keep my own 540I for another couple of years or wait for the new 2005 Infinity G35 6MT.... ghead
I took the 330 Coupe for a ride today though it did not have the SMG gear box and really enjoyed it. Yes it is smaller and yes it doesn't have the power my 540I has but it was alot of fun to drive. I then drove this years G35 6MT. Granted it is not a BMW but I gotta tell you it for the money it was great. Didn't really like the interior but apparantly that is being changed for 2005.
My question is will I be happy with the 330?? Should I stick with my 540I as I don't like the new 545I or move on to the G35??? Any other suggestions would be appreciated. BTW; Pricing works out to just about the same monthly for any of the three options above.
well, it depends if you want a replacement for you E39 540i, or a totally different car that can give u some pazaz in your life.
If your looking for something to take the place of the 540i, the new 545i is actually quite great, heeps of power and if you option up for the sports suspension 18inch wheels and sway-bar (aint-roll bar)...its an aswome car to drive. However it looks funny, and your have to be careful wat colour u get it in, because some colour manage to hide and blend in well with the shape of the car, wheras other ones...show the ugliness of the car. But as you stated, u don't like it...
On the other hand, if your looking for a sporty fun car, with decent amount of grunt,, the 330Ci is tip top. The new mercedes CLK-320 is not bad either, but its more of a luxury cruiser than pure sports. You may want to wait a few more months and try out Mercedes' new 3.5L engine, and get the CLK-350, which is around $5000 or so more dearer than a 330Ci, but it packs a hell of a wallop.
if you would like a fast car, then you should try the BMW M3 with SMG, then you'll think that your 540i is bicycle (sorry). The M3's technology is totaly different fro series 3, and is built for realy fast driving. So my suggestion is to by M3, if possible.
Next year the BMW will deploy the new series 3 in Europe, I don't know when it will be availible USA.
