Can you guys give me opinions about which one to choose from: carbon fiber air intake, K&N 57 series and the AFE Stage 1 Cold Air Intake System Type Cx? I'm looking for the best combo of performance/sound.
Well, well. it's me again. haha OK so from what I have read over numerous threads on the subject of Intake systems here is what I have learned. a) You are not going to notice much in the way of performance gains. At least not the numbers listed by the manufactures. So sound is about all your going to notice out of one. b) some members of the forums have mentioned that certain intakes have caused malfunctions with the MAF and other related AIR functions with their BMWs. Throwing SES codes here and there. Most of them note K&N as a culprit to ruining MAFs due to the oil they use in their filters.
So what I have heard of when people actually suggest them instead of stating your better off leaving it stock.
In-order of popularity mentioned. I only know of one person that has the Conforti installed. I have a K&N that I purchased before I really researched, I may still put it in to try it out. I do not know of which sounds the best.
Your the man Steve. I gathered just about the same info on e46fanatics.com. The K&N is luring me in, its only $200 but the MAF sensor is a problem. Since i'm most likely gonna get sound out of it I dont't see myself paying 400$. The CF on umnitza.com looks good but idk about sound and its only $230. Also from what I've read the conforti has the most bang for the buck, but 400$, idk if its worth it.
I like the AFE.....they have the option for an oil free, washable filter, the Pro-Dry S filter "MAF Sensor friendly"....perfect fit...$389.63 & free shipping & a $25.00 rebate until 4/30/09. I have had this Intake in my car for a little over a year & half and no problems with the MAF, NO CEL's....
hey steve have you heard the cosmos it includes the K&N filter but i don't see any oil based cleaning. Do you think this one will be ok with the MAF sensor?

edit- um didn't notice the horde of post above- brb after research
Double edit: I wouldn't go with the Cosmos one personally. I would stick with either the Conforti or the Afe both I belive use a foam filter. As far as sound I couldn't tell you sorry.

Ya, and I think I'm gonna go with that AFE. Hopefully I'll like it
You will, very good quality.....easy install & that Pro-Dry S filter option is great......The oiled filters are fine also, but people tend to over do it with the oil......free shipping & rebate is not a bad deal either.
That would be great. I heard how the cosmos racing sounds, but its only at higher RPM's the AFE that johnny is talking about has great reviews all around. Lol your gonna kill me for this but, should I buy the intake with that money or buy a rear bumper to match the kerscher one that I bought
