3-Series (E46, E90)Chat relating to the BMW 3-Series from 1999 to Current. Models include: BMW 316i, BMW 318i, BMW 318Ci, BMW 320i, BMW 323i, BMW 325i, BMW 330i, BMW 328 Ci, BMW 328i, BMW 325i/xi, BMW 330Ci, BMW 320d, BMW 330d, BMW 335d.
Great editorial, lots of info, but one IMPORTANT note you failed to mention. Maybe you didn't know about the different wiring layouts for different years. You'd think that any E46 would have the same wiring layout so everything would be plug and play. Wrong, or at least that's what my dealer told me. I installed a set of OEM xenon headlights into my 99 323i. The headlight plug were identical and the proper color for high and low beam. Since these are not bi-xenon, there's only 1 ballast. Anyway hooked them up, they didn't work, and my indicator on the dash said the bulbs were burnt. I pulled the bulbs out and checked them on another ignitor/ballast system I had on a Nissan and the bulbs worked. OK so I thought I needed my computer to know I had xenon and no longer halogen bulb. Took it to the dealer and he say's BOTH ballast/ignitor modules are blown, because my FACTORY WIRING IS BACKWARDS. The ground is on pin 1 instead of 12V possitive.(or I may have that backwards) Anyway so now I've got to buy two more ballasts or sell the lights w/out ballast on E-bay. Maybe in 2000 BMW changed the polarity of the plugs? or maybe I've got '98 wiring? Anyway it cost me $100 for the dealer to tell me I've got 2 wires reversed, plus the cost of the ballast!
So a word to the wise, please check to see which pin is supposed to be hot and which one is supposed to be ground. It's a costly error! Hope somebody reads this and saves some money and a headache!
That is very true when upgrading OEM Xenons.
Our Projector46 systems are completely compatible with all year E46's
If anyone is interested in simply upgrading to better looking bulbs, I just installed the EuroDesign 8500K Xenon/Krypton bulbs. These are brand new to the market and were less than $20.00 on Ebay. You can see my pics below, but the photos don't do much justice. (Crappy little 2 megapixel camera).
Nevertheless, I replaced both the headlights and the foglights. The results were less than what I hoped for, but a marked improvement nonetheless. I would have hoped for a more blue hue to the light.
If anyone out there knows of the bluest of blue halogen bulbs (H7), I am very interested. I can always put the Eurodesign ones in my high beams if I decide to upgrade to bluer ones in the low beams.
Best,
Ari

I just installed the Luminics Pure Blue bulbs. They are 6000K and 55W-130W. Here's a good comparison photo to show you the difference from stock bulbs. This photo was taken from my Cannon S200 Digital Elph and is not enhanced in any way. I personally love these bulbs, and for less than $40.00, I'm happy. Tell me what you think...

Looks great, we do have Predator Xenix bulbs which will accomplish the same effect for $15 less
Great article. I was thinking of adding angel eyes to my 328Ci but sold it last week to my cousin. Can you fit them to a 330CiA///M Sport, (the face lift model) with factory fit Xenons?
Okay guys, check out the improvement. Here's what I did:
1) Stopped at Kragen Auto parts on my way home from work today. Purchased one 6 oz can of "Metalic Silver" car spray paint.
2) Removed the healight bezel insert (very easy, just unsnaps after you take of the lens and corner light housing).
3) Applied 4 thin coats (so as to avoid dripping and running) of the metalic silver paint. Used a heat gun between each coat to dry faster.
4) Put everything back together. The final product looks at least as good as the titanium inserts that sell for $80.00 plus shipping on Bimmerwerks (maybe better, because there's no extra plastic in there.)
Total time: 1 1/2 hours.
Total cost: $5.40.
You tell me what you think......(just can't wait for the clear corners that I just ordered!)

Hi guys i need help on how i can wire my new CCFL angel eyes. i have a 2003 m3 coupe with xenon projector headlights. I ordered this set of angels eyes and im suppose to hook it up to my running daylight plug. problem is i dont have a running daylight at all and i dont see a plug for it. is there any other way i can hook this up as a running daylight or can it only be hooked up to an aftermarket ignition wire? any advice would be great. thanks in advance.

you can wire it to your corner lights... so they turn on only when you turn on your head lights?
