Help. How do I get the Water Pump pully off.

I was driving to work and the battery light came on. I thought that I might have lost the alternator belt, so I pulled over and ... Yes one belt came off and took the other with it. While I was waiting for my wife to show up with our SUV and my tools, I got the four bolts off the pump pulley, but that pulley still does not want to come off.

What is the deal with this? How do you get that off? After reading through the archives I see someone stating that the impeller is plastic... ouch.

The WP pulley just wobbles around ( I suspect why I lost the belt) So does anyone think it could be anything other that the water pump and how does that pulley come off?

BTW, I have a 2001 325XI which I bought new and it now has 55,000 miles on it.

Also, does anyone know what the life expectancy on the water pump is? The service manual does not ever mention it.

Ok, I am an idiot. The pulley came right off after banging on it enough to chip off a small piece. Another $45.00.

Anyone have a belt diagram for my car? I placed it on in a way in which there is too much slack and if they sold we the wrong one : . But I can't see any other way.

Also, it was definately my water pump. The old one is trash. Looks like melted plastic in the pulley. The good news is that the plastic impeller was intact, with the exception of a few gouges from where it made contact with the engine block once the bearing was toast. A metal impeller might have made more of an impression on the block

It is done. Thanks. It seems to be ok, but only time will tell. I drove it 44 miles to work and it appears to be cool.
