Help Auto Problem!

I have a 2003 BMW E46 with an automatic sequential gearbox, but i am having a few problems with the Gearbox. If i start the car either in N or P and leave the car in either of those gears for about 2 minutes a little light comes up next to the N or P saying there is a problem with the gearbox. I have had the car checked out by a BMW specialist and they can't find any problems with it, and i am not going to pay BMW prices for a guy to plug in a computer. But.. if i start the engine in either one of those gears and select Reverse or Drive straight away no error will come up at all, unless i stop and put it in P or N. Would be nice to get a little help. Thanks for your time Jamie
