Help! 323i 2000 Oil Leak

Hey guys I have an 2000 323i and recently its been leaking and the low oil light has been flickering but I just got my oil changed and its full. I took it to a place and they put a sealint in it too slow it down but they think its the rear main seal thats leaking they said that if so it would cost around 700 to 1,000 dollars becuase they have to take the engine out but someone told me that it depends sometimes they dont have to take the engine out to fix the problem. Is 700 to 1,000 to much for this fix and is it nessacary to take engine out to fix this problem. Also anyone else had the oil light flickering. Thanks let me know.

Not sure how mechanically inclined you are, but if your not, get a second opinion from another shop just in case.

One thing you can do is put down cardboard or paper under the car and leave it for the night. This will tell you two things: Where the leak is roughly, and how much is leaking.

The rear main seal can be done with the engine in the car, but the transmission will have to be dropped. With the labour of dropping the tranny up to $1,000 doesnt seem bad. At a labour rate of $100hr thats 7 hours labour.
