I have a friend who is looking to buy an e46. He found the car but it does not have heated seats. How hard is it to add that feature now? Also how expensive?

Is hard , because your friend would have to torn apart all seats to add it or buy new set of heated seats- not worth the price ! on other side of the coin ,after instaling those "ASS WARMERS" will be easier by your friend to get so called hemorrhoids (ass expanded veins) a very painful staff !!!
I doubt it would be too difficult. Usually BMW pre-wiresa lot of equipment so all you might need is a little hardware here and there and it might work. Although I don't have the first clue as to what actually goes into a heated seat.

here is a link on how to install heated seats, using all oem parts, in an e36. I know it's not your buddy's model, but it will help him with the decision. E36 Heated seats install
Awesome that is exactly what I needed thanks dentz! Now just to find out what kind of beer he likes, and how much that part kit is.
