Heat Sensor Issues

Hi guys am new to the forum. Hope you are all well

I have a Bmw 318 and i've been having overheating problems. My fault as i filled her collent up and didnt put cap on properly- then drove to england only to see steam pouring outtta my engine!!!! I filled her back up with a mechanic friend of mine when i was down south....that put the sensor light on the dash off. At no point didnt my temperature gauge give any high readings.

Then when i got back to glasgow the light was back on.....My local garage flushed her and refilled, still no fix. Every time i take it back it gets fixed for a while then my light comes on again.....

Any help or thoughts would be great!

what light is coming on. The low coolant light or the red area of the temp guage. If the low coolant light is coming on it's the level sensor in the bottom of the coolant expansion tank. If its the temp guage light it's the thermostat and probably the water pump due to the impellar on it being plastic.
