Headlight warning light

Dear all,

I'm a bit confused. Sometimes on my dash I see the warning lights for the front left headlight coming up - the manual states I should check the state of the lights. Looking at the lights from outside everything appears normal. I could bring the car to a dealer but that's usually a real hassle in London and was wondering whether there's anything I can do myself?
I'm driving a 3 Coupe (E46), built in 12/2002. Normal Halogen Lights.

My car has the same trouble.

When it happens i touch the headlamp and the cockpit light turn off.

Probably it's a false contact

check all the bulbs on the left front side including the sidemarkers on the fender. This light comes on if one of the bulbs are bad not just for the headlights could be a highbeam light is out also...
