Gas prices are killing me $3.05 for premium. Will regular gas hurt my engine?

it will detonate, overheat, and crack the head. bmw will know about what you did (they can interrogate ignition map and knock sensors), and will refuse warranty for a blown engine.
How about $ 4,50 premium per gallon, what we pay here in Western Canada? or ask Guys from England ,how much they pay for gas! Do not complain , fill with a right stuff-everybody is hurting recently with these prices.
Honestly, how can $0.20 or $0.30/gal be killing you? The m54 engine management system recognizes different grades, from 87 to 98, so the anti-knowck mechanisms will atke care of things, but you will ose preformace and fuel efficiency. So you save money on gas, but sepnd money by making your engine work harder and by using more gas. In summary, regular grade fuel will not hurt your engine, but I recommend that you stay with premium. Your call.

My X5 4.8is gets 20 mpg on a good day. I fill with premium and it costs me $78-85 every 2-3 weeks. My work car is a 328i and it gets 30 mpg and it costs me $40 every 4-5days. If you don't like the prices of premium, you can't afford the car, trade it in and get a Prius, or a Civic.
