Just had my 2006 330xi inspected at an independent shop and the said I need to replace split front control arm bushings. They said left front bushing has currently drained all the fluid out.
They quoted me $524.76
Does that price seem reasonable? How long can I go without getting it done?
As you can see, I don't know very much so I appreciate your help!
Well i would probably go somewhere else, considering that "bushings" do NOT contain any fluid. Bushings are made of rubber.
Go somewhere else and have it looked at. Do you notice any difference in handling over the last few months? Anything noticeable that wasnt their when you first got the vehicle?
Hi!! I wanted to let you know that you aren't alone. My driver side control arm bushing and control arm, and ball joint all needed to be replaced a few months ago. As for the price....yes that is quite outlandish. You can certainly order the parts online, (although I recommend you use BMW parts...sometimes they are expensive, and not readily available, so do what suits you best!) at a discounted rate. As for it "leaking"....r they serious? Even I know they don't leak anything! So def take it to a trusted BMW dealer, or someone you can trust. You will find that most repairs are not as complex as most would lead you to believe! They are a car just like all others....mechanics see you coming and think, JACKPOT!!! So, trust your instincts, and always get a second opinion!!!
An OEM Control arm for an E90 is about $117. Part # 31 12 6 768 983 or 31 12 6 768 989
depending on which one you need. Thats almost $300, before labour, and with labour taking about 2-3 hours, at around $100 an hour then $524 doesnt seem unreasonable to me. However, the "fluid leaking" comment would prevent me from ever getting anything fixed their. Ever.
Price above from BimmerSpecialist.com, on Genuine OEM parts. Both parts listed as in stock at the time of this post.
