Had to top up the oil yesterday, and I absentmindedly neglected to replace the oil cap. I didn't catch it until the check engine light came on. So its back on, and whatever oil was lost as a result of the cap not being on replaced.
The check engine light is still on. Whats the worst case scenario? I drove about 60km without the cap.
WORST case is that the oil level went so far down that the engine had none in it and the metal parts didnt get any lubrication and now the engine will have a knock.
dont worry to much about it though. the light probally was to aware you about the low oil and after you filled it and put the cap on the light just needs to be reset.
The oil level sensor will sense the capacity of oil, but it does not sense the pressure of the tank. When the cap is opened, there is possibility the oil will be evaporized guadrally. However, the check engine sign may cause from uneven pressure of pump. You still find check engine light-up when you put back the cap. There may have other problem. Try to reset the electric power and see any improve. Otherwise, you should go to the repairing shop.
So. I called the dealer, my guy said that if it hadn't gone bone dry, to top off the oil, check the levels daily for a while, and if the light doesn't go off, to visit him.
