First Inspection

Just got back from the dealership with the following completed on a Aug. production '01 325i:

Front pads replaced, not unexpectedly.

Surprisingly the front rotors are within .5 mm of needing replacement!

Front driver speaker replaced. Oddly, the trim ring broke. Replace the ring, right? Wrong. BMW says replace the whole SPEAKER.

Replace broke window regulator on driver's side passenger door.

Usual fluid changes and wiper replacement.

Reprogram transmission due to "clunk" on three, two, one downshifts. Steptronic.

Tech could not verify whine from diff. Although, I've been bad and not keeping up on my tire rotation, and the diff whine has been attributed to noisey tires. BTW: I've got the ContiSports which have had complaints about tire noise.

Replace idler pulley from mechanical to hydraulic. The car was making an odd squeaking sound at cold start which would go away as the car switched from fast to slow idle as it warmed up.

How many miles on your 325i? Was this inspection I at about 30k? Mine is a 99, and at about 55k I was told I needed to replace all 4 Rotors, they were [/I]under[I] spec... I still havent replaced them at 65k, since Ive had NO problems, but am going to do it in a week or so... I can't BELIEVE that the stealer wanted almost $700 to replace them, since I can do it myself for under $100... Even a local BMW private garage would do it for $350.

I had to have a window regulator replaced too, fortunately under warrenty...

This window regulator thing must be an issue with '01s. Before mine was traded in the inspection 1 service was done and at some point the Window regulator was replaced on this 330i as well. Weird, almost sounds like my american car issues...

Current miles are 30,133.


The window regulator is a frequent problem. So frequent that your dealer probably stocks the parts to have them on hand for a "no wait" replacement. At least that's the case with my dealer.

My neighbor with a '00 323i has had 3 window regulators replaced, though not the same ones. He's also had the driver door speaker trim ring also replaced with a whole new speaker.

Re: the brakes. To have all four brakes (rotors, pads, sensors, etc.) by the book at the deal was over $900!!!
