engine shuts off after a few seconds

i am buying a used 2000 328ci from a dealership. it has 139000 miles on it .it has an s tittle and needs a wind shield, hood, L. headlight, and L. fender. The salesman said it will start but shuts off after like 2 seconds. He thinks its the encoding of the key or the security system while another salesmen thinks its the fuel pump... he wants 3500-3700 for it

Any ideas why it wont run?

perhaps a safesy switch? only a computer scan could tell for sure, ask the salesman to have a mechanic scan it.

most mechanics hit ya for about 100 for a scan, as far as what it takes to repair it might just be something as simple as pushing a button.

Just FYI make sure you call around for that scan.. there are alot of good deals out there and shops are willing to do it for free, so they might have the chance to get the job of fixing it.

Welcome to the Werkz and good luck with sorting out this deal. You could always hit the sales guy for the cost of the scan off the price if you buy it.

thanks. thats what i was thinking, be like ill pay 3700 for scan and repair of the security if thats the problem
