Dear all,

I have a 318ci , July 2002 car (90k miles), which I recentrly bought it from a dealer. (UK car) . Yesterday when I start the engine, I got the 2 yellow alerts mentioned above, with the engine alert keep displaying while the EML switch off , after 3 seconds.
In the same time the engine (and the car) is shaking when the car is parked or moving with very low speed. When I speed up this shaking seems to be reduced.

As a technician told me, probably the problem is the 4 coils, since they have never been replaced and they usually have a life of 2-3 years. Also have in mind that from the time I bought the car (1 month) it was the first time that it was rain , (hailstorm) , and as they told me maybe this affected the coils if they were at the end of their life.

Please advice since tmr I will take it to the technician, (still in quarantee) and I want to change any parts that may are problematic now. What do you think it may be the problem for both EML and engine alarms.

Also since I am new in BMW world, what fules do you suggest about 318ci?
When I bough it they told me unleaded 95 , while in manual I see that unleaded 98 is better.. May be that causes the problem as well????

Regards,
Theo

1st off all,,...i couldnt understand half of it.....

next... the yellow light that comes on and stays on for a few seconds....that is to check the coolant levels in the engine..if it goes out,,,that is good

as for the fuel....most people on the forum would advocate using a good fuel...the higher the ron number the better....(open to debate)

i personally NEVER touch cheap supermarket fuel....
yeah,,i know..all made in the same place..blah blah blah....
anyone see the FIFTH GEAR report on fuels????

as for the engine light that stays on.....goto a REAL specialist or a true BMW dealer..they will connect it to a diagnostic laptop and scan the codes...its always something simple...so dont fret.....usually a sensor is malfunctioning rathing than the engine dying.
but they can tell u in a jiffy...where as a normal mechanic will humm and arrgg ..

if it is under a BMW Guarantee...then great....tell them all that is wrong

if it is a warranty that you have....well...these dont cover "wear and tear"
which is a VERY hit and miss statement...

as it happens ..i am off to janspeed tomorrow for a good diagnostic session tomorrow...
so good luck to each of us :):)
