My wife owns a 2000 323CI. This past Saturday her car would not start. It started for a brief moment at first, then died. From then on it would turn over but not start. It sat until Monday waiting for a tow to the dealer. It still would not start on Monday.
The service department told her that the engine was flooded. How this happens on a fuel injected engine puzzles me. She does NOT press the accelerator pedal when starting.
Can someone tell me how this happens and what can be done to alleviate if it happens again? The service department said (I didn't talk to them) that they drained something and the car has been fine since yesterday. If it is as simple as draining the fuel rails or something similar, I can do that myself?

Thanks. Dave

this should never happen. the onyl way i can think is that the injector opening valves (controlled electromagnetically) are failing. hence, gas leaks into the cylinder. i imagine that if this is the cause, it will happen with regularity. otherwise no clue what they are talking about (flooded??? )

Thanks for the replies.
I believe that is what happened. The day before, my wife just moved the car into the garage and it only took a couple of seconds. The engine did not run very long before she shut it off.

As for my other question, how do you alleviate the flooded engine?

Hi,

I had a problem with my BMW e46 '99 318i. It wouldn't start so I pressed teh accelerator down and it flooded. Hda to remove spark plugs, clean the fuel off them and put them back in. Worked fine.
