EML and Engine Lights On Undrivable

Hi, I hope someone can help me. I have a 320 Ci 2004. The last time I drove the car was 3 days ago with no problems. I have started the car this morning and found that the EML and engine light is on. The revs are going up and down whilst idle and when I press the accelerator the car almost stalls and refuses to gain any revs.

I know it is hard to diagnose without the codes but what kind of work/costs may I be looking at? Is this potentially a costly problem to fix?

Odds are its a vacuum leak of some kind. Check all your vacuum lines and intake boot for cracks or tears. Check the hose under the intake manifold as well as sometimes it can come loose. If you can not find a vacuum leak, it *may* be your Idle Control Valve. When it fails the car will start but die without throttle.
